چکیده

Based on the Cahn-Hilliard free energy, a thermodynamic model for a reactive binary mixture of incompressible and miscible fluids is derived with a distributed form of surface tension. The model describes chemistry, diffusion, viscosity and heat transfer as well as stresses produced by (and at right angles to) concentration gradients. It allows for a rich spectrum of processes and some of these are discussed briefly. Scaling arguments based on experimental data of Abid et al. [1], lead to considerable simplifications. Saffmann-Taylor stability analysis (here extended to interfaces of finite thickness) agrees with the experimental findings of Abid et al. who argued that the buoyant instability of a reaction diffusion front is controlled by a form of surface tension at the front.

On the asymptotic behavior of the equations describing the motion of an incompressible binary fluid

We determine the asymptotic behavior of the system of Cahn-Hillard/Euler's equations that control the dynamics inside the thin boundary layer separating two inviscid, incompressible, and nearly immiscible fluids. This model was proposed recently in order to replace the classical moving boundary model of two immiscible fluids, separated by the interface with the surface tension. We formally veri...

A phase field model for the mixture of two incompressible fluids and its approximation by a Fourier-spectral method

A phase field model for the mixture of two incompressible fluids is presented in this paper. The model is based on an energetic variational formulation. It consists of a Navier–Stokes system (linear momentum equation) coupled with a Cahn–Hilliard equation (phase field equation) through an extra stress term and the transport term. The extra stress represents the (phase induced) capillary effect ...

Experimental Investigations on the Thermal Performance of a Vertical Closed Loop Pulsating Heat Pipe Using Binary Mixture of Fluids

This paper presents the experimental investigations conducted on a vertical closed loop pulsating heat pipe (VCLPHP) to evaluate the thermal performance. The values of thermal resistance and heat transfer coefficient obtained in the experimentation is used as evaluation parameters. The VCLPHP used has capillary tubes having an inner diameter of 2mm and outside diameter 3mm and bent into 5 turns...

Mass - Conserved Phase Field Models for 2 Binary Fluids

The commonly used incompressible phase field models for non-reactive, binary fluids, in which the Cahn-Hilliard equation is used for the transport of phase variables, conserve the total volume of each phase as well as the material volume, but do not conserve the mass of the fluid mixture when the densities of two components are different. In this paper, we formulate the phase field theory for m...

A New Surface Tension Model for Prediction of Interaction Energy between Components and Activity Coefficients in Binary Systems

In this work, we develop a correlative model based on the surface tension data in order to calculate thermodynamic parameters, such as interaction energy between components (Uij), activity coefficients and etc. In the new approach, by using Li et al. (LWW) model, a three-parameter surface tension equation is derived for liquid mixtures. The surface tension data of 54 aqueous and 73 non-aqueous ...
